Satheesh Reddy conferred first IEI-IEEE award

Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister and DRDO’s DG (Missiles & Strategic Systems), was conferred the first IEI-IEEE Award for engineering excellence 2015 . The award is in recognition of his ‘significant national contributions towards missiles and aerospace technologies’.

The award was presented by the Institution of Engineers (India) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Asia Pacific region, during the latter’s 50th anniversary.

Ronaldo wins UEFA Best Player in Europe award

Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo has been declared UEFA’s Best Player in Europe for 2016. He won the award ahead of teammate, Gareth Bale and Atletico Madrid forward, Antoine Griezmann. This is the second time that the Portuguese captain has won the award, tying him with the Argentine Messi as the only two players to have had the honour of winning the award twice.

Saina drops to 9th spot, Sindhu remains at 10th

India’s Saina Nehwal dropped four points to be ninth, while compatriot PV Sindhu remained in the 10th spot in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings despite getting silver in the women’s singles competition at the recently-concluded Olympics in Rio.

Rio semi-finalist Li Xuerui moved up a place to be second, while her compatriot Yihan Wang, who lost to Sindhu in the quarter-finals, dropped two places to be fourth.

Telangana Aarogyasri Healthcare Trust Bags FICCI Award

The GPS enabled mobile app of the Telangana Aarogyasri Healthcare Trustbagged this year’s Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI)’s healthcare excellence award. It is the second award for the app having secured the ‘Elite Smart Healthcare Conclave’ for being the most important mobile app in the nation.

Aarogyasri CEO Dr. M. Chandrasekhar will be receiving the award fromUnion Health Minister J.P. Nadda at a function to be held in Delhi on Aug.31. TS Health Minister C. Laxma Reddy appreciated the Trust officials for the award.

Suresh Prabhu commissions new rail line in Andhra Pradesh

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu commissioned a new railway line between Nandyala and Yerraguntla. They also flagged off a new passenger train between Nandyala and Kadapa.

The 123-km railway line was built at a cost of Rs 967 crore and connects Kurnool and Kadapa districts of Andhra Pradesh. This will also directly connect the Rayalaseema region with the state’s new capital Amaravati.

BCCI signs MoU with TERI to promote renewable energy

Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has signed an memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Energy and Resources Institute (Teri) for promoting renewable energy.

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) is a research institute based in New Delhi that conducts research work in the fields of energy, environment and sustainable development. Established in 1974, it was formerly known as Tata Energy and Resource Institute.

India to host the 1st BRICS Film Festival from Sept. 2

India will be hosting the first BRICS film festival which will begin from Sept. 2, said Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu. The five-day BRICS film festival would be held from September 2 to 6 at New Delhi. “The film festival will showcase an amalgamation of culture, films, song, dance and food of the 5-member countries including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Maharashtra government to transform 1,000 villages with the help of corporates

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the State government plans to transform 1,000 villages with the help of corporate sector, and the civil society over the next few years.
He said corporate sector is already working with the government in various sectors through the CSR and “we thought of using their resources, knowledge, technology and planning and implementation skills.

Maharashtra endorses Godavari water projects of Telangana

The Telangana and Maharashtra chief ministers signed an agreement that would clear the way for constructing three new barrages by the lower riparian state on Godavari while protecting Maharashtra’s interests.

The two states have decided to bury the old water disputes after the Telangana government modified the original plans by changing the height and alignment of these barrages in a bid to ensure zero submergence on the other side. The agreement facilitates construction of three barrages, one each on River Godavari and two of its tributaries — Penganga and Pranahitha in Telangana.

BANKING AND FINANCE

21 banks to go live with Unified Payments Interface

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) launched the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is live and currently available for customers of 21 banks. UPI is a payment solution which empowers a recipient to initiate the payment request from a smartphone. It facilitates ‘virtual payment address’ as a payment identifier for sending and collecting money and works on single click 2-factor authentication.

NPCI had decided that only the banks with 1,000 pilot customers, 5,000 transactions and success rate of around 80 percent would be permitted to go live.
