Senior revenue service officer Atulesh Jindal has been appointed as the Chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the apex policy-making body of the income tax department. He will succeed A K Jain, who completes his term at the end of this month. The appointments committee of the cabinet has approved the appointment of Jindal as chairman CBDT, an order issued by department of personnel and training.
Jindal, a 1978 batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, is currently working as member (revenue) in the CBDT. He will have a tenure of six-months till he retires in July. Apart from its chairman, CBDT has six members and is the supreme body for framing policies related to direct taxes.
CBDT
- The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) provides essential inputs for policy and planning of direct taxes in India and is also responsible for administration of the direct tax laws through Income Tax Department.
