Assamese Film Director and Actor Bidyut Chakraborty passes away

Assamese filmmaker, actor and director Bidyut Chakraborty has died at the age of  56 due to prolonged illness. Chakraborty is survived by his mother and his wife. He won the National Award for his first film “Rag Birag” in 1996 in the category of Best First Film of a Director. He was well known for his films “Anurag“, “Gun Gun Gane Gane” and “Dwar“. These films had won many prestigious awards.

Bidyut Chakraborty was conferred with Indira Gandhi Award (Golden Lotus Award for Best Film) in 1996. He was the lead actor and associate director of another popular Assamese film Ahir Bhairav which was shot entirely in the United Kingdom.
