Asia Cup: India won the match

Asia CupIndia demonstrates its dominance in Twenty20 cricket and regains continental supremacy, downing host Bangladesh by eight wickets in the final of the Asia Cup at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. With this victory, India lifted their sixth Asia Cup title. This is the first time the Asia Cup was held in T20 format and India proved why they are No.1 side in T20 Internationals.

The captain didn’t even collect a stump after finishing things off with 20 not out off six balls. Just a handshake with his deputy Virat Kohli and he was done. Kohli held up his hands to acknowledge the dressing room before trudging off. It was just another day in office for the world’s best T20 side that now has a 10-1 winning record in the last 11 matches. Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza was right; it was a contest between No. 1 and No. 10.
Some Facts about Twenty20 cricket:
  • Although the IPL has changed the cricketing landscape by revolutionizing the concept of franchise cricket, it was the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) that actually cooked up this unique format. The Twenty20 county competition was introduced in 2003 and it was, from the outset, meant to complement the longer formats of the game.
  • While the ECB came up with this novel format, the first ever T20 international was played by Australia and New Zealand, also known as ‘The Trans-Tasman Rivals.’
  • King XI Punjab’s Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh put together 206 runs for the second wicket in IPL 2011 against RCB. This is the highest partnership for any wicket in all of professional T20.
  • Australia were beaten by Zimbabwe in the first-ever World T20 match!
  • Yuvraj Singh has the fastest 50 in World T20. Just 12 balls! He also scored 36 runs in that infamous Stuart Broad over!
  • Brendan McCullum has the highest score in a World T20 match. 123 runs in 58 balls vs Bangladesh in 2012!
  • Shahid Afridi has the dubious record of 5 ducks in World T20!
