Scotland’s Andy Murray has defeated Spain’s undisputed king of clay Rafael Nadal in the finals of Madrid Open 6-3, 6-2 and claimed his second career clay court title. Murray’s record on clay is now 9-0 this season while Nadal has suffered four defeats on the mud. Murray is just the fourth player to beat Nadal in a clay court final.
In the last 20 previous meetings, Murray had won only five matches, and he had never beaten Nadal in six attempts on clay.

Casey Dellacqua (Australia) and Yaroslava Shvedova (Russia) pair won the Madrid Open Women’s doubles Title. They defeated Spanish pair Garbiñe Muguruza and Carla Suárez Navarro by 6–3, 6–7,(4–7), [10–5] score.
