Amul to build Rs 600 crore cheese plant in Palanpur, Gujarat

Amul, India’s top Dairy Products brand, plans to invest Rs 600 crore in a greenfield cheese plant in Palanpur, Gujarat. On completion this plant will help to triple the cheese output. Amul looks to increase its share in the Indian cheese market from 65% now. Its Palanpur plant would produce mozzarella and processed cheddar cheese to start with.

Amul’s value added products such as butter, curd, ice-cream and milk-based beverages have seen impressive growth over the past few years. Amul butter holds 90% share in the Indian market whereas its fresh milk share is 40%-45%.

Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation had posted turnover of Rs 20,730 crore for the last fiscal ended March, up 14% from the previous year’s Rs 18,143 crore.
