The GOI has appointed A.K. Jha, Director (technical) at NTPC as the interim Chairman and Managing Director of the state run power generator. NTPC’s CMD Arup Roy Choudhury’s five-year term came to an end August 31. The government decided not to extend his term for another two years, as has been the practice, and instead set up a selection committee to scout for a new head.
This will be an additional charge for Jha for the next three months. The central government has already set up a selection committee, which is headed by the power secretary, to select for a new chairman and managing director. The government has for the first time considering top executives from the private sector for the position.
Government is considering,
- Tata Power Company’s managing director and chief executive officer Anil Sardana
- Punj Lloyd’s CEO JP Chalasani
- Jayadeb Nanda, chief operating officer (operations and maintenance) at Adani Power
- NTPC’s current director finance, Kulamani Biswal
for the post of NTPC’s CMD.
