Airtel Launches 100mbs broadband services

Airtel announced the launch of its new V-Fiber broadband service in Chennai. The service offers speeds of up to 100 Mbps and will be launched to 87 other cities across the country, beginning with Delhi and NCR, and Bengaluru.

  • Rather than laying new lines, Airtels V-Fiber will attempt to boost connectivity over its existing copper lines using something called “vectorization”, which essentially eliminates interference in transit and provides a clearer path for signals.
  • The company has also added local exchanges to manage the improved speeds.
  • However, it’s important to note that existing broadband users will need to trade in their modem for a new one in order to use the service.
  • Users will have to pay a one-time fee for the new modem, though the exact price has not yet been revealed, but Airtel insists their broadband rental plans will not increase despite their improved services.
  • In addition, new users can avail of an unlimited three-month trial, and customers will be refunded the price of the modem if unsatisfied within the first month of use.
  • Airtel is also offering customers free unlimited voice calling across all its broadband plans, to any network throughout India.
