After Maggie’s removeal from Indian market, another multi national fast food product has been withdrawn. Indo Nissin Foods, Makers of Top Ramen noodles, announced that it is withdrawing the entire Top Ramen instant noodles brand from the market. The decision has been made as the product approval is pending from the Indian food regulator, Food Safety & Standards Authority of India.
Top Ramen has been the third largest instant noodles brand in the country, after Maggi and Sunfeast Yippee. The brand has been selling in the country for more than two decades. Indo Nissin clarified that it had been selling Top Ramen in India with necessary licenses since 1991.
But after the FSSAI formulated fresh product approval guidelines in 2012-end, Indo Nissin had applied for approvals which it said haven’t yet been cleared by the regulator. Earlier this month, Nestle had to recall Maggi noodles, while Hindustan Unilever also withdrew its Knorr instant noodles brand over safety and regulatory issues. Nestle had destroyed Maggi noodles after the withdrawal.
HUL also recalled its Chinese range of ‘Knorr’ instant noodles from the market pending product approval from FSSAI.
