India among the worst place to grow old- Report

India stood at 71 among 96 countries and has been termed as the worst place for older people. Switzerland has cliched the best place in the world for older people to live. The readings were given by Global AgeWatch Index 2015 compiled by HelpAge. The annual index represents 91 per cent of the world’s population aged 60 and over, amounting to some 901 million people. Afganistan has occupied the last place and then emerged as the most unsafe and unhappy countries for old people.

The index has been measured four key areas:

  • income
  • health
  • education
  • employment
  • the enabling environment.

The top five Countries are:

  • Switzerland
  • Norway
  • Sweden
  •  Germany
  •  Canada .

Why these counties occupied the top positions?

Because:

  • They are  improving the lives of older people.
  • They are implementing policies which promote social pensions,.
  • Providing universal healthcare
  •  enabling physical and social environments for older people.
