India has chosen Vikram Misri to be its new foreign secretary. On July 15, he will start his new job. This year, Vinay Mohan Kwatra’s term was stretched by six months, and this choice comes after that. There was a government statement from the Personnel Ministry saying that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet agreed with the choice. Misri got a raise, but he had less to do as Deputy National Security Advisor (NSA).
His Experience
Because he joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1989, Misri knows a lot about how to deal with diplomats. He has held important positions like India’s minister to China, Spain, and Myanmar. This shows that he knows a lot about relations between countries around the world and between countries. He has worked as an ambassador, in the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of External Affairs, and on other overseas projects.

On January 1, 2022, Misri was named Deputy NSA. He then became Foreign Secretary. He has worked as a private secretary for three Indian Prime Ministers: I.K. Gujral, Manmohan Singh, and Narendra Modi. Working at different Indian Missions around the world taught him more about how to get along with people from other countries.

He was born on November 7, 1964, in Srinagar, India. He began his work as an Under Secretary in the Office of the External Affairs Minister during the rule of I.K. Gujral. He then held important jobs in the Office of the External Affairs Minister and the Pakistan Desk under Pranab Mukherjee, who was the minister at the time. Misri’s long and varied work as a diplomat saw a lot of different events. It began with his schooling and early jobs.
