The first Ascent to the Mont Blanc was done by Jacques Balmat and Michel-Gabriel Paccard today albeit on a different year. On 8th August 1786, they became the first person to climb the Mont Blanc, highest mountains of Alps and successfully inked themselves in History. The summit of Mont Blanc is thick and full of ice, that is why its thickness varies. It has been measured umpteenth times. The latest one is in year 2009, at 4,807.45 m (15,772 ft).

About Jacques Balmat:
  • He was was amountaineer and a mountain guide too.
  • Balmat completed thefirst ascent of Mont Blanc with physician Michel-Gabriel Paccard on 8 August 1786.
  • For this achievement, King Victor Amadeus III gave him the honorary title le Mont Blanc.
  • Balmat died by falling off of a cliff while prospecting for gold in theSixt valley in 1834.

  • Due to his passion forbotany and minerals, he metHorace-Bénédict de Saussure, who initiated the race to be the first to ascend Mont Blanc.
  • Paccard had a first, unsuccessful, attempt in 1783 withMarc Theodore Bourrit.
  • In 1784, he made several attempts withPierre Balmat.
  • Finally, he made the first ascent of Mont Blanc with Jacques Balmat on 8 August 1786.
