1. ISRO launches sounding rocket RH-560 to study attitudinal variations

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched the sounding rocket (RH-560) to study attitudinal variations in the neutral winds and plasma dynamics, at Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota Range (SHAR).

ISRO has developed a series of sounding rockets called Rohini series, important among them being RH-200, RH-300 and RH-560, number in the name indicating the diameter of the rocket in mm, according to the Bengaluru-headquartered space agency.

2. Noted Kathakali Dancer Chemancheri Kunhiraman Nair passes away

Veteran Kathakali artist Chemancheri Kunhiraman Nair has passed away in Kozhikode, Kerala. He was 105-year old. He was awarded Padma Shri in 2017 for his contributions to the dance form of Kathakali.

3. World Bank economist Deepak Mishra appointed as director of ICRIER

Deepak Mishra, Practice Manager in the World Bank’s Macroeconomics, Trade, and Investment Global Practice, has been appointed as the next director and chief executive of the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER).

He will take the charge of Rajat Kathuria who has been the director and chief executive of ICRIER since 1st September 2012.

4. Mumbai City FC beat ATK Mohun Bagan to win their maiden ISL title

Mumbai City FC has defeated ATK Mohun Bagan 2-1 in the ISL 2020-21 final to lift yet another trophy this year. Mumbai had earlier secured the ISL Shield along with a spot in the AFC Champions League group stage by finishing first in the standings in the regular season.

5. Former Boxing Champion ‘Marvelous’ Marvin Hagler Passes Away

The former undisputed middleweight boxing legend “Marvelous” Marvin Hagler has passed away. Hagler, the American legend, ruled as the undisputed middleweight champion from 1980 to 1987. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1993.

6. Renowned Padma Bhushan winning painter Laxman Pai passes away

Renowned Indian artist and painter Laxman Pai has passed away. The Goa-based painter was a recipient of the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour. The former principal of the Goa College of Art had several laurels under his name including Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, Nehru Award, and Lalit Kala Akademi Award.

8. Gowsalya Shankar honoured with International Woman of Courage 2021

The U.S. Consulate honoured Tamil Nadu-based anti-caste activist and human rights defender Gowsalya Shankar with a nomination for the International Woman of Courage (IWOC) Award.

The IWOC Award Certificate of Nomination was handed over to her by U.S. Consul General in Chennai Judith Ravin at an event ‘Courageous Women Inspire a Better World’ held in the city.

9. Govt of NCT of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021 introduced in Lok Sabha

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) introduced the “Government of NCT of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021 in the Lok Sabha on March 15, 2021

The bill proposes that the “Government” in the national capital territory of Delhi means “Lieutenant Governor” (L-G) of Delhi. It provides for the discretionary powers to L-G of Delhi even in matters where the law-making power rests with the Legislative Assembly of Delhi.

10. Marine Aids to Navigation Bill Introduced

The Marine Aids to Navigation Bill 2021 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on March 15, 2021. The bill was moved by Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Mansukh Mandaviya.

This initiative is part of the proactive approach which was adopted by Ministry of Shipping by repealing the archaic colonial laws and replacing them with the modern and contemporary needs in the maritime industry.

11. Nokia to Develop New 5G Radio Solutions

The Finnish telecom equipment maker, Nokia, announced on March 16 that it has partnered with the Microsoft, Amazon web services and Google so as to develop a new cloud-based 5G radio solution. This solution will be developed with its radio access network (RNA) technology. This partnership was gone with objective of developing a new business cases, in three separate statements.

12. Rajya Sabha passes National Institute of Food Technology Bill 2019

The Rajya Sabha has approved the “National Institute of Food Technology Bill, 2019” on March 15, 2021. This bill declares the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management, Kundli in Haryana and Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology, Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu as the “National Institutes of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management”.

13. Union Cabinet approves MoU between India, Maldives on cooperation in sports and youth affairs

The Union Cabinet under the Chairmanship of PM Modi on March 16, 2021, apprised of a Memorandum of Understanding between India and Maldives.

The MoU was signed in November 2020 between the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment of Maldives and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of India for cooperation in sports and youth affairs.

14. Haryana Yog Aayog Bill 2021 passed by Haryana State Assembly

Haryana Yog Aayog Bill 2021 was passed on March 15, 2021 along with four other bills by the Haryana Vidhan Sabha during the ongoing budget session.

The Haryana Yog Aayog Bill, 2021 was passed to establish Haryana Yog Aayog for the promotion, management, regulation, training of Yoga.
