1. June 14: World Blood Donor Day
Every year, World Blood Donor Day is celebrated on June 14. The day is celebrated to thank voluntary blood donors and also raise awareness about the need for regular blood donations. This year the World Blood Donor Day is celebrated under the theme

World Blood Donor Day is celebrated on June 14 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner. Karl won Nobel prize for discovering ABO blood group.
2. “Ghar Ghar Nigrani”: Mobile Application launched by Punjab Government
The Punjab Government has launched “Ghar Ghar Nigrani” mobile application to undertake house to house surveillance to eliminate COVID-19 pandemic. The mobile application was launched by the Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. The application is to be used as a tool for early detection and testing of COVID-19 and prevent community spread.
3. ₹14,690 crore disbursed under emergency credit line guarantee scheme as of June 11: Finance Ministry
State-owned lenders have sanctioned loans worth ₹29,490 crore under the emergency credit line guarantee scheme, out of which, 50% of the credit has already been disbursed, as of June 11, the finance ministry said.
“As of 11 June 2020, PSBs have sanctioned loans worth ₹29,490.81 crore under the 100% Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS), out of which ₹14,690.84 crore has already been disbursed,” the finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s office said in a tweet.
4. Raja festival of Odisha: A celebration of womanhood and sustainable development
Odisha, the land of Lord Jagannath, celebrates 13 festivals in 12 months ( a popular proverb among the locals ) meaning Odisha celebrates endless festivals throughout the year. Among all this one important festival is Raja Parba which is celebrated for three days during the mid of June, preferably starts from 14th June and ends in 16th. During this period, the state remains in a state of jubilation and celebration.
5. M B Lal Committee
The recent massive fire at the Baghjan Oil field, Assam had caused serious environmental damages and led to migration of 1000s of people in the region. More than 1,610 families are now lodged in 4 relief camps. The Government of India has taken several measures to address the issues of such oil field fires. In 2009. GoI constituted the M B Lal Committee following the fire accident at the IOCL terminal in Jaipur.
6. “Arogya Path”: Portal to provide health care supply updates launched
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Health Supply Chain portal called “Arogya Path” was launched to provide real-time availabillity of health care supplies.
The Arogya path will serve suppliers, manufacturers and customers. It will act as an integrated platform to provide information about key health care goods that help customers to tackle following issues
- Dependence on limited suppliers
- Time-consuming Processes to identify quality products
- Limited access to suppliers that supply standardized products
- Lack of awareness about the current and latest launches
7. June 15: World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
Every year, the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is celebrated on June 15 by the United Nations. The day is celebrated to raise awareness about the neglect and abuse of older persons. It also raises awareness of social, cultural, economic and demographic processes that has impacts on elder neglect and abuse. This year the day is marked under the theme

8. Exim Bank extends $215 million line of credit to Malawi
India based finance lender Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank) announced to extend $215.68 million Line of Credit (LOC) to the Malawi government.
Exim Bank in its issued statement said, “The bank has extended a line of credit (LOC) worth of $215.68 million to the Malawi government for drinking water supply schemes and other development projects.”
9. DRDO develops ‘GermiKlean’ to sanitise uniforms of security forces
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed a sanitizing chamber named ‘GermiKlean’ to sanitise uniforms of security forces. The sanitizing chamber has been set up at Parliament Street Police Station.
DRDO’s move came after Delhi Police gave their requirement for sanitizing their uniforms, canes, cane shields, helmets, etc.
10. Leading research institutions in the Nature Index 2020 Annual Tables
The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Beijing has topped the Nature Index 2020 Annual Tables list as the most prolific producer of research published in the 82 selected journals tracked by the Index (see Graphic).
CAS’s Share of 1805.22 in 2019 was almost twice that of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, which came in second. Research institutions from China, the United States, France, Germany and the United Kingdom feature among the ten most prolific institutions in the Index.
11. IPO-bound UTI AMC appoints Imtaiyazur Rahman as CEO
UTI AMC, which plans to launch IPO soon, said the company board has appointed Imtaiyazur Rahman as the Chief Executive Officer of the asset management company. The decision is seen addressing the concerns of Sebi on the CEO position which was vacant for quite some time.
The AMC filed DRHP with SEBI in December 2019. Rahman was an internal candidate for the position, which fell vacant after completion of the term of the earlier CEO in 2018.
12. CM Yogi inaugurates ‘Bal Shramik Vidya Yojana’ in Lucknow
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated ‘Bal Shramik Vidya Yojana’ via video conferencing on June 12. It aims at educating orphans and children of workers or those working as labourers. The scheme was launched in the presence of UP Labour Minister Swami Prasad Maurya today. June 12 is observed as ‘World Day Against Child Labour’.
13. Former cricketer and historian Vasant Raiji, who turned 100 on Jan 26, dies aged 100
Former first-class cricketer and historian Vasant Raiji who turned 100-years-old in January, passed away in Mumbai. Raiji, a right-handed batsman, played nine first-class matches in the 1940s, scoring 277 runs with 68 being his highest score.
14. Odisha Becomes First State to Get ISO Certification for Tribal Hostels
Odisha has become the first state in the country to receive ISO certification for hostels meant for tribal students, an official said.
The ST&SC Welfare Department had earlier launched the ‘Mission Suvidya’ project to provide all the tribal hostels of the state uniform standards of infrastructure, amenities and human resources, he said.
15. Javed Iqbal Wani sworn in as J&K High Court judge
J&K and Ladakh Chief Justice Gita Mittal administered the oath of office to Javed Iqbal Wani, the 13th judge of the combined High Court.
The ceremony was held around 11 a.m. and was webcast live. Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and Justice Deeraj Singh Thakur were personally present on the occasion, while other sitting judges joined the ceremony through video conferencing.
16. Devendra Kumar Singh appointed as the new Director of SIDBI
The Ministry of Finance notified the appointment of Devendra Kumar Singh, Additional Secretary & Development Commissioner, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, as Central Government nominee Director on the Board of Directors of Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI). He will be succeeding Ram Mohan Mishra, with immediate effect and until further orders.
