1. World Accreditation Day was observed on 9 June

World Accreditation Day (WAD) was observed on 9 June. The day is celebrated every year to highlight and promote the role of accreditation in trade and economy.

Theme:

The theme for the 2020 World Accreditation Day is “Accreditation: Improving Food Safety”. The theme was set by IAF and ILAC. The theme aims to highlight the role of credible, competent accreditation for improving food safety.

2. First virtual Trade Fair of India

The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts hosted a four day virtual fair for around 200 Indian Exporters. The exporters were mainly from the industries of fashion jewelry and accessories. The spray can be used by common man, health care workers. Also, the spray can be used on a large-scale use as well.

3. ANANYA: Disinfectant Spray developed by Defence Institute

The Pune based Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) has developed Nano-Technology based disinfectant spray to fight against COVID-19. The spray has been named ANANYA.

4. Which countries have declared themselves to be free of coronavirus?

New Zealand became the latest country to declare itself to be free of the coronavirus, whereas Tanzania declared itself free of the disease on Sunday. Fiji, Montenegro, Seychelles and St Kitts and Nevis have also said that they are left with no active coronavirus cases. Papua New Guinea, Holy See and Eritrea have also declared themselves coronavirus-free.

5. General Charles Brown Jr appointed as first black US Air Force chief

The US Senate has unanimously confirmed the appointment of General Charles Brown Jr as chief of staff of the US Air Force. He is the first African American to serve as a service chief in the US military. Brown most recently served as the commander of US Pacific Air Forces. The vote came amid protests over George Floyd’s death.

6. Ramon Magsaysay awards 2020 cancelled due to COVID-19 virus

Ramon Magsaysay awards, known as Asia’s version of the Nobel Prize, have been cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Manila-based foundation issued a statement on June 9, 2020 saying that it has no choice but to cancel the 2020 awards with COVID-19 almost immobilizing the world.

7. First American Woman to Walk in Space Reaches Deepest Spot in the Ocean

The first American woman to walk in space has become the first woman to reach the deepest known spot in the ocean.

Kathy Sullivan, 68, an astronaut and oceanographer, emerged from her 35,810-foot dive to the Challenger Deep, according to EYOS Expeditions, a company coordinating the logistics of the mission.

8. Renjith Kumar honoured with “NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal”

Indian Aerospace entrepreneur, Renjith Kumar has been honoured with “NASA Distinguished Service Medal” for his administration to NASA through executive leadership, engineering contribution, technical excellence and consumer loyalty.

He worked in relationship with NASA for over 30 years and contributed to updating the International Space Stations(ISS). He is CEO Emeritus of the Virginia based Analytical Mechanics Associates(AMA). RK Chetty Pandipati was the First Indian to win this honour in 2002.
