1. Shaheedi Diwas was observed in India on 23 March
Shaheedi Diwas (Martyrs’ Day) was observed in India on 23 March. The day is observed every year. On this day, the martyrs who laid out their lives for the country and its Independence are remembered. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the Martyrs on this day.
Shaheedi Diwas pays tribute to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru, who died on 23 March 23 in 1931.
2. Dr.Ram Manohar Lohia birth anniversary was observed on 23 March
Dr.Ram Manohar Lohia’s birth anniversary was observed on 23 March. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Dr.Ram Manohar Lohia for social empowerment and his service-oriented philosophy that continues to inspire the citizens of the country.
3. Tamil director Viswanathan passed away
Veteran Tamil director Meenakshisundaram Ramasamy Viswanathan passed away due to kidney failure on 22 March in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He was 74 years old.
Viswanathan is popularly known as Visu in the Tamil film industry. Visu started his career working as an assistant under filmmaker K Balachander. In 1977, he directed his first movie Pattina Pravesam. He was known for his message-driven family dramas.
4. World Meteorological Day is observed on 23rd March
The World Meteorological day is observed on 23 March. The day is celebrated by the World Meteorological Organization. The day marks the establishment of the World Meteorological Organization.
Theme:
The theme of the 2020 World Meteorological day is “Climate and Water.” The theme focus on climate change for the year 2020 is “Count Every Drop, Every Drop Counts.”
5. IITM hosts India’s first Hyperloop Pod Competition-What is Hyperloop Pod?
For the first time in India IIT Madras is to host Hyperloop pod competition in July 2020. India has taken a few steps in bringing the environment friendly Hyperloop pod transport in the country.
6. Website launched by SAARC Disaster Management Centre for COVID-19 information
The Disaster Management Centre of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation has launched a website related to COVID-19. The website shows number of Corona virus Cases in member states.
According to the website, currently there are 960 cases of Corona Virus in the SAARC region. Recently the SAARC leaders held a video conference to contain the spread of Corona Virus. During the Conference, PM Modi had launched SAARC COVID-19 Emergency Funds.
7. India-Turkey Kashmir Irritant: India proceeds with FSV Indian Navy Agreement with Turkey
India had put the Fleet Vessel Ship (FVS) Agreement on hold. The agreement was signed with Turkey to manufacture 45,000 tonne FSV at Vishakhapatnam. India and Turkey signed the FSV agreement in 2016. FSVs are important for the Indian Navy to transport fuel and other supplies for warships at sea.
8. Vasant Rao appointed MD for IDC India and South Asia
International Data Corporation (IDC) announced the appointment of Vasant Rao as Managing Director for IDC India and South Asia, effective March 18, 2020. He will be based out of IDC’s Bengaluru office and will be reporting to Eva Au, Managing Director, IDC Asia/Pacific.
9. GoAir appoints Sanjiv Kapoor as Advisor
Low cost airline GoAir on Saturday said that it has appointed Sanjiv Kapoor as Advisor. Kapoor was at Vistara as its Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer.
Kapoor’s career spanned for over two decades with airlines in Asia, Europe, and the US as investment advisor, portfolio manager, and management consultant – will advise GoAir on important business and government matters.
