1. Dalilah Muhammad set new world record in the 400m hurdles womens athletics at the U.S. Championships athletics
American Athlete Dalilah Muhammad set new world record in the 400m hurdles women’s athletics at the U.S. Championships athletics on 28 July. She colcked 52.20sec. The previous world record was set at 52.34 sec by Russia’s Yuliya Pechonkina in 2003.
2. West Bengal CM launches ‘Didi Ke Bolo’ campaign
Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee launched a unique initiative called ‘Didi Ke Bolo’ (Tell your sister) campaign to reach out to people of State.
This campaign for common masses, is devised to entertain voters’ regarding various issues for which phone number (9137091370) and website www.didikaybolo.com are also launched. The move is being seen as fresh plans to mobilise people and strengthen party at booth level ahead of Assembly polls due in 2021.
3. Odisha Rasagola’ gets GI Tag
After years of controversy around sweet, Rasagola, a popular dessert of Odisha, has received Geographical Indication (GI) tag in GI Registry from Registrar of Geographical Indication. Both Odisha and West Bengal have been contesting origin of rasagola and West Bengal had got GI for ‘Banglar Rasogolla’ in 2017.
As per Historical records submitted Odisha Rasagola has an age-old tradition and is associated with world famous Puri Jagannath Temple as it is offered to Lord Jagannath as part of bhog since centuries.
4. Srinivas BV appointed interim President of Indian Youth Congress
Congress leader Srinivas BV was appointed as the interim President of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Monday by the Congress President, said an All India Congress Committee communique signed by party General Secretary KC Venugopal. Srinivas was earlier the National Vice President of the IYC. He replaced Keshav Chand Yadav, who was given the charge in May 2018.
5. Bandhan Bank appoints Siddhartha Sanyal as chief economist
Private lender Bandhan Bank announced the appointment of Siddhartha Sanyal as chief economist and head of research who will spearhead the bank’s research and business strategy.
Sanyal joined Bandhan Bank from Barclays Bank Plc where he was the director and chief India economist based in Mumbai since 2010, a statement issued by the bank said.
6. World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 30 July 2019
In a statement to mark World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the UN Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, Maria Grazia Giammarinaro, urges States to step up efforts to ensure compensation for people who are trafficked:
“It is critically important that States invest in long-term solutions to ensure social inclusion for survivors of human trafficking. This means ensuring that there are robust procedures by States to allow victims to access to justice and remedies including compensation.

7. India’s 7th Economic Census begins from Tripura
India’s seventh Economic Census began from Tripura on Monday and a similar task would be launched in other States and Union Territories across the country next month, officials said.
“The three-month long fieldwork of seventh Economic Census launched in Tripura. The fieldwork in other States and Union Territories would be undertaken in August and September,” said Economic Census nodal officer Arup Kumar Chanda.
8. Odisha Secretariat renamed Lok Seva Bhavan
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday announced in the State Assembly that the Sachivalaya or Secretariat building in Bhubaneswar will now be called ‘Lok Seva Bhavan’.
“In a democracy people are masters and we all exist to serve them,” said Mr. Patnaik while making the announcement during the budget discussion on the expenditures of the home and general administration departments.
9. Senior BJP leader Vithalbhai Radadiya passes away
In Gujarat, senior BJP leader and former Lok Sabha MP Vithalbhai Radadiya died. He was 61. He was ailing for some time. His son Jayesh Radadiya, who is a Minister in the State government, made the announcement about his death, through a tweet.
According to family sources, Vithalbhai Radadiya last rites will be held at his native place, Jam Kandorna town of Rajkot district tomorrow. Considered as a popular farmers’ leader of Saurashtra, the six-time MLA also served as a Minister in the Gujarat government.
10. Indian Federation of Sports Gaming ropes in Justice AK Sikri as ombudsman
The Indian Federation of Sports Gaming (IFSG), India’s first self-regulatory industry body for the online fantasy sports gaming sector, has appointed justice (retired) A K Sikri as its ombudsman and ethics officer.
Justice Sikri is an eminent jurist, a former judge of the Supreme Court of India and was recently appointed as a judge in the Singapore International Commercial Court.
11. International Friendship Day is observed on July 30
It was first proposed in 1958 in Paraguay as the ‘International Friendship Day’. It was initially promoted by the greeting cards’ industry, evidence from social networking sites shows a revival of interest in the holiday that may have grown with the spread of the Internet, particularly in India, Bangladesh, and Malaysia. Mobile phones, digital communication and social media have contributed to popularize the custom.
12. Triple Talaq Bill: History created in Rajya Sabha, Triple Talaq bill passed
Triple Talaq Bill known as Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019 has been passed in the Rajya Sabha in a landmark vote with 99 votes in favour and 84 against. This is a historic victory for Modi Government.
The Triple Talaq bill was tabled in the upper house of the Parliament by Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019 aims to ban and criminalise the practice of divorce among Muslims by simply stating Talaq three times.
