1. Hima Das Wins Fourth Gold in 15 Days, Muhammad Anas Gets Top Spot
Hima Das clinched her fourth gold of the fortnight as she won the 200m race with a creditable time in the Tabor Athletics Meet in the Czech Republic. Hima won in 23.25 seconds though the race had a mediocre field with most of the competitors representing clubs of Czech Republic.
Nonetheless, she is inching closer to her personal best of 23.10. Hima’s compatriot VK Vismaya was second with a season-best 23.43.
2. ADB cuts India’s GDP growth forecast to 7% for this year
Asian Development Bank lowered India’s GDP growth forecast to 7% for the current year on the back of fiscal shortfall concerns.
“India is expected to grow by 7% in 2019 (FY20) and 7.2% in 2020 (FY21), slightly slower than projected in April because the fiscal 2018 outturn fell short,” ADB said in its supplement to the Asian Development Outlook 2019.
3. Repco MFI wins award from Nabard for SHG linkage in TN
Repco Micro Finance, an NBFC-MFI promoted by Repco Bank, announced that it has received Nabard’s award for outstanding performance in terms of self-help group (SHG) linkage in Tamil Nadu for 2018-19.
The Chennai-headquartered micro finance institution currently operates from 90 branches in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and has an employee strength of about 600 people.
4. Cabinet approves 2880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Project in Arunachal Pradesh
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the expenditure on pre-investment activities and various clearances for Dibang Multipurpose Project (MPP) in Arunachal Pradesh for an amount of Rs 1600 crore.
The estimated total cost of Project is Rs 28080.35 including IDC & FC of Rs 3974.95 crore at June 2018 price level. The estimated completion period for the project shall be nine years from receipt of Government sanction.
5. Incredible India Campaign Wins Pata Gold Award 2019
The Incredible India “Find the Incredible You” campaign released globally by the Ministry of Tourism during 2018-19 has been declared winner of the PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) Gold Award 2019 in the “Marketing – Primary Government Destination” category. This year’s awards attracted 198 entries from 78 organisations and individuals worldwide.
6. Anish Bhanwala won the gold medal in the 25m rapid fire pistol in the ISSF Junior World Cup 2019
Anish Bhanwala won the gold medal in the 25m rapid fire pistol competition in the ISSF Junior World Cup 2019 in Suhl, Germany. Bhanwala secured 584 and shot 29 in the final. He defeated Egor Ismakov. Russian Egor Ismakov won the silver medal with 23, while Germany’s Florian Peter bagged bronze with 19. India have so far won eight gold, seven silver and three bronze medals. Adarsh Singh and Agneya Kaushik came fourth and sixth respectively.
7. Cabinet approved the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2019
The Union Cabinet approved amendments to the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016 through the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2019 on 17 July 2019. The approval will place a greater emphasis on more time-bound resolution and lays down voting rules of the financial creditors.
8. Indian secured the first spot in the medal tally of Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship
Indian team secured the first spot in the medal tally of Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2019 held at Samoa, a country in Oceania. 37 Indian players participated in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship in Apia, Samoa. It won 35 medals including 22 golds, 10 silvers and 3 bronze medals in the youth, junior, and senior categories.
9. India and China both are exercising restraint in Doklam’, Rajnath Singh ensures enhanced security along border with China
India and China bilateral pacts to ensure peace and tranquillity along the border. Rajnath Singh addressing the lower house of parliament, adding that both India and China were exercising restraint in Doklam. The complete restraint by the Armed Forces of India and China in Dokalam there was a month-long stalemate between the armed forces of the two countries in Dokalam in 2017.
10. Palau became the 76th country to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA)
Palau, an archipelago of more than 500 islands in Oceania, has become 76th signatory country to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA). The agreement was opened for signature during COP22 at Marrakech, Morocco on 15 November 2016.
