Train passengers can contact helpline by dialing number 138 through their mobile phones in case of medical emergency. All passengers trains will be provided with First Aid Boxes containing essential drugs, medicines and dressing materials, Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said .
He said the front line staff deployed on trains is trained in rendering First Aid. Trains can also make unscheduled halts, if necessary, at the stations en-route in emergencies. The Station Masters have details of doctors, clinics and hospitals, both Government and Private, in the vicinity of the station, so that their services could also be availed, in emergencies.
Modifications to be done in Railway ticket.
- “All Indian Passenger Helpline No. 138” is to be got printed at the front of the reserved as well as unreserved train tickets i.e. Passenger Reserved System (PRS) as well as Unreserved Train System (UTS).
- The text “PNR and train arrival/departure enquiry No. 139” is also to be printed in the front of the ticket.
- it has also been decided that the text “to report unsavoury situation during journey please dial railway security helpline no. 182” also be got printed at the back of the reserved and unreserved train tickets.
- It is also desired that the text “please carry valid identity proof” as appearing at the back of reserved train tickets (PRS) may be modified as “please carry original identity proof”.
What is number 138?
It is an India helpline number, 138, will become functional to attend to the problems of passengers on a real time basis to address the injured victims. It is to be got printed at the front of the reserved as well as unreserved train tickets i.e. Passenger Reserved System (PRS) as well as Unreserved Train System (UTS).
