  1. Paytm’s Sharma named UN Environment’s Patron for Clean Air

Paytm founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma has been named the UN Environment’s ‘Patron for Clean Air’.

He will help drive greater environmental action and awareness, and advocate for the goals of UN Environment’s global BreatheLife campaign. The campaign will work on promoting policy and citizen action for better air quality for people.

According to the World Health Organisation, half of the 20 most-polluted cities in the world (levels of PM2.5, a fine particulate matter) are in India, including Delhi.

  1. 6th International Tourism Mart to Begin in Guwahati

“6th International Tourism Mart” (ITM) will begin in Guwahati, Assam. The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, in association with the North Eastern States is organizing this Mart from 5-7 December, 2017.

Jagdish Mukhi, Governor of Assam will inaugurate the Mart. The 6th International Tourism Mart, will put the spotlight on India’s “Act East Policy”, blossoming ties with ASEAN and the larger East Asia region, home to the world’s rapidly growing economies and India’s emerging tourism markets.

  1. Global Network for Entrepreneurs launched to assist budding entrepreneurs

The Global Network for entrepreneurs was launched during the Global Entrepreneurship Summit GES 2017 in Hyderabad aiming at providing a one-stop solution for assisting start-ups and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to set their feet.

With an aim to accelerate the entrepreneurial journey, the Global Network for Entrepreneurs’ is unique in a two-fold manner.

This is a flagship initiative of the Wadhwani Foundation which has been known for its initiatives for job creation through entrepreneurship and skill development.

  1. Sonowal announces cabinet sub-committees for tribes

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has announced setting up a cabinet sub-committee to carry out feasibility study for inclusion of Rabha, Tiwa and Mising tribes under sixth schedule of the Constitution.

The implementation of the State Capital Region Authority would catapult progress of the areas within its jurisdiction and there is no cause to worry for the Rabha and Tiwa people as their rights would be fully protected.

  1. December 04, 2017: Indian Navy day

Navy Day is observed annually on 4 December to celebrate the Indian Navy’s achievements and commemorate the sacrifices made by its personnel.

The date commemorates the launch of Operation Trident, a devastating attack on the Pakistan Naval Headquarters of Karachi during the 1971 war.

During the attack, three Vidyut-class missile boats, two anti-submarine vehicles and a tanker of the Indian Navy successfully sank the enemy’s minesweeper, a destroyer and an ammunition supply ship.

The Government to Government Umbrella Agreement between the Government of India and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany concerning Financial Cooperation in 2016 (II) under the Indo-German Development Cooperation was signed        to formalize an amount up to Euro 200 million for the Financial Cooperation in form of loan for the project ‘Climate Friendly Urban Mobility III’ and Euro 11 million Accompanying measures in form of grant for four projects.

  1. South Korea, U.S. kick off large-scale air exercise

South Korea and U.S. kick off large-scale air exercise. The annual U.S.-South Korean drill, called Vigilant Ace, with six F-22 Raptor stealth fighters to be deployed among the more than 230 aircraft taking part. The exercises have been condemned as a provocation by the isolated North.

The joint exercise is designed to enhance readiness and operational capability and to ensure peace and security on the Korean peninsula, the U.S. military had said before the drills began.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro looked to the world of digital currency to circumvent U.S.-led financial sanctions, announcing the launch of the “petro” backed by oil reserves to shore up a collapsed economy.

The announcement bewildered some followers of cryptocurrencies, which typically are not backed by any government or central banks. Ironically, Venezuela’s currency controls in recent years have spurred a bitcoin fad among tech-savvy Venezuelans looking to bypass controls to obtain dollars or make internet purchases.

  1. Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor passes away aged 79

Legendary Bollywood actor Shashi Kapoor, the romantic screen icon of ‘70s and ‘80s, died. He was 79. He was honoured with Padma Bhushan in 2011 and received the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award in 2015.

  1. Deepika Kumari Wins Bronze at Indoor Archery World Cup

India returned with a solitary bronze medal by Deepika Kumari at the Indoor Archery World Cup Stage 2 that concluded.

Deepika, seeded third, defeated 13th seeded Sayana Tsyrempilova of Russia 7-3 in the women’s recurve bronze play-off to bring some smile to the camp after the men’s top seed Atanu Das crashed out in round two.
