  1. Annabel Mehta awarded with the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)

Social activist Annabel Mehta, a British national, has been awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for her work and service to the underprivileged. The award will be presented to her at Buckingham Palace in London later this year.

The Order of the British Empire (which has several ranks) was created in 1917 by King George V to recognise individuals, who have contributed valued service to their communities. MBE is a rank of the order and stands for Member of the Order of the British Empire.

  1. Ayurveda specialist Rajesh Kotecha appointed special secretary in Ayush ministry

Renowned Ayurveda physician ‘Vaidya’ Rajesh Kotecha was appointed as special secretary in Ayush Ministry. The appointment is in line with the Centre’s efforts to bring in specialists from the private sector in the government.  The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment to the post for three years on a contract basis. Vaidya (or physician/doctor) Kotecha is chief consultant of Chakrapani Ayurveda Clinic, Jaipur.

  1. Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed bin Salman appointed Crown Prince

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has appointed his 31-year-old son Mohammed bin Salman as crown prince, placing him firmly as first-in-line to the throne and removing the country’s counterterrorism czar and a figure well-known to Washington from the royal line of succession.

Mohammed bin Salman, 31, was also named deputy prime minister, and maintains his post as minister of defence. The newly announced Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman heads an economic council tasked with overhauling the country’s economy.

International day of yoga is also called as the world yoga day. United Nations General Assembly has declared 21st of June as an International Yoga Day on 11th of December in 2014. Yoga in India is considered to be around 5,000 year old mental, physical and spiritual practice. Yoga was originated in India in ancient time when people were used of meditation to transform their body and mind. Launching a particular date of practicing yoga all across the world and celebrating as yoga day was initiated by the Indian Prime Minister to the United Nations General Assembly.

  1. Punjab Announced Free Education For Girls From Nursery To PhD

The Captain Amarinder Singh-led government in Punjab has announced free education for girls in government schools and colleges from Nursery to PhD. Making the announcement Capt. Singh said free textbooks will be provided to all students in government schools from the next academic session.

Nursery and LKG classes will be reintroduced in government schools from next year. Fulfilling another election promise Singh also announced free Wi-FI for 13,000 primary schools and all 48 government colleges.

  1. Meghalaya Govt signs two MoUs with SBI for digital transaction

Meghalaya government has signed two MoUs with the State Bank of India as a part of an initiative towards migrating government transactions to digital mode.

With implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), these MoUs are expected to give dealers and other citizens the desired platform for conducting financial transactions with the state government on a digital platform.

  1. Isro to launch Cartosat-2 along with 30 smaller satellites

The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) is gearing up to launch its Cartosat- 2 series satellite for earth observation along with 30 co-passenger satellites. The satellites will be carried by Isro’s work horse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), in its 40th flight (PSLV-C38). The rocket is scheduled to take off from Sriharikota space port.

  1. Estonia to open world’s 1st data embassy in Luxembourg

The world’s first ever data embassy is set for launch next year after the Estonian government signed a deal with Luxembourg. Estonia is planning to keep backup files of its vital information on servers in the duchy in order to guarantee country’s digital continuity. The landmark agreement was signed between Ratas and his Luxembourg counterpart, Xavier Bettel. Luxembourg has been chosen as the location for the embassy, since it has capabilities to provide high level of security for the stored data.

  1. Uber founder Travis Kalanick resigns as CEO

Travis Kalanick stepped down chief executive of Uber, the ride-hailing service that he helped found in 2009 and built into a transportation colossus, after a shareholder revolt made it untenable for him to stay on at the company. Mr. Kalanick’s exit came under pressure after hours of drama involving Uber’s investors, according to two people with knowledge of the situation, who asked to remain anonymous because the details were confidential.

  1. India wants to host 2032 Olympics, 2030 Asian Games: IOA Chief

India’s Olympic Association has asked the government for permission to bid for the 2032 Olympics and 2030 Asian Games as part of a drive to put the country at the heart of the international sporting community, IOA President N Ramachandran said. Ramachandran said the IOA also wanted India to host the Asian Beach Games in 2020, the Olympic Council of Asia’s general assembly that year, and the International Olympic Committee session in 2021.

  1. India’s nuclear fusion pioneer Predhiman Kaw passes away

Professor Predhiman Krishan Kaw, the man who pioneered India’s nuclear fusion reactor research programme, passed away at the age of 69 in Ahmedabad.

Kaw was the founder of the Institute for Plasma Research (IPR) in Gujarat, an institute that made India one of the seven member entities building the world’s largest fusion experiment — the $14 billion International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER). He founded IPR in 1986 and was the institute’s director till 2012.
