Sachin Tendulkar inducted into Laureus Sports Academy

Indian cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar along with other four sports persons on 15 April 2015 was inducted into the prestigious Laureus Sports Academy.

The other sportsmen name are:

  • Yao Ming– Retired Chinese professional basketball player.
  • Tegla Loroupe– Kenyan long-distance runner.
  • Li Xiaopeng– Chinese gymnast.
  • Yang Yang– Former Chinese short track speed skater Yang Yang.

  • About Sachin Tendulkar
    • Sachin is one of the best  former Indian cricketer.
    • He took up cricket at the age of eleven, made his Test debut on 15 November 1989 against Pakistan in Karachi at the age of sixteen.
    • He is the only player to have scored one hundred international centuries.
    •  In his entire career, he had played for India in 200 Tests, 463 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and one Twenty20 International.
    • In 200 Test matches he had scored 15,921 runs at an average of 53.78. It comprised of 51 centuries and 68 half centuries.
    • Awards and honours:
      • Sachin received the Arjuna Award in 1994.
      • Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 1997.
      •  Padma Shri award in 1999.
      • Padma Vibhushan awards in 2008.
      • On 16 November 2013, the Prime Minister’s Office announced the decision to award him the Bharat Ratna.
      • He is the youngest recipient to date and the first ever sportsperson to receive the award.
      • He also won the 2010 Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for cricketer of the year at the ICC awards.
      •  He was also the first sportsperson and the first person without an aviation background to be awarded the honorary rank of group captain by the Indian Air Force.
      • In 2012, he was named an Honorary Member of the Order of Australia.
