Union government Constitutes national Committee on Trade and facilitation

India has initiated the process to set-up a National Committee on Trade Facilitation (NCTF) to domestically coordinate and implement the (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement. India is setting up a national panel that will cut red-tape for the export-import industry while also ensuring faster clearances of merchandise, in line with the commitment to the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Times Internet partners HDFC Bank to launch co-branded Debit Card

Times Internet, the digital arm of the Times of India Group, and private sector lender HDFC Bank entered into a partnership to launch co-branded debit cards. This is the second co-branded card launched by Times Internet with HDFC Bank, after launching a (co-branded) credit card targeted at the entertainment segment in 2013.The Times Points HDFC Bank Debit Card will offer customers the best deals in the online space as well as reward them for engaging with the Times Internet sites.

India’s First facility to produce nickel launched by HCL in Jharkhand

Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) inaugurated the nickel, copper and acid recovery plant at Indian Copper Complex, Ghatsila (Jharkhand). This is the first facility in India to produce nickel metal of LME grade from primary resource. The Singhbhum Copper Belt has unique ore characteristics which contains appreciable quantity of nickel. Hindustan Copper has installed and commissioned the technology to recover as nickel metal.

Astronomers discovers closest Earth-like planet

Astronomers have found a rocky and possibly Earth-like planet circling the star closest to the sun the European Southern Observatory’s (ESO) La Silla Observatory in Chile had spotted evidence of a rocky, potentially habitable world orbiting Proxima Centauri, a small, dim star that lies just 4.25 light-years from the sun. Proxima Centauri is a red dwarf, a star much smaller and cooler than the sun. About three-quarters of all stars in the Milky Way galaxy are red dwarfs./p

Country’s first bio-CNG plant to be inaugurated in Pune

India’s first bio-CNG plant is all set to be inaugurated in Pune. Commissioned by city-based Primove Engineering Private Limited, this plant will use agricultural residue to generate CNG which can be used in automobiles as fuel. “600 million tonnes of agricultural waste is generated per year in the country. With every few uses of this residue, most of it is wasted.

Unilever acquires Blueair

Blueair, a world leader in air purifying solutions with acclaimed leading — edge filtration technologies and design, announced it has been acquired by Unilever. Blueair founder Bengt Rittri said: “The acquisition will enable even more people to protect their health by using Blueair air purifiers to remove indoor airborne contaminants such as hazardous PM2.5 sooty particles, allergens, chemicals and viruses.

OBITUARY

Much-feted Punjabi writer Gurdial Singh passed away at 83

Padma Shri awardee Punjabi writer Gurdial Singh, 83, breathed his last after a prolonged illness at a private hospital in Bathinda . Singh had been on ventilator support since August 13 after he had reportedly fell unconscious at his residence in Jaitu town of Faridkot district.
