Sai Praneeth wins men’s 2016 Canada Open

Sai Praneeth defeated Lee Hyun II of Korea to clinch the Canada Open 2016 title at Calgary. The Indian shuttler outclassed Hyun in straight games (21-12, 21-10). Praneeth, 23, was dominating his opponent right from the word go. In the first game, Praneeth took an early lead and was comfortably placed at 11-3 during the break. He continued keeping the pressure on his opponent and won the first game 21-12.

World No. 37 Praneeth hardly broke any sweat against Lee, leading all throughout right from the start to end in both the games. The third seeded Korean couldn’t put up any fight against the Indian, who jumped to a 10-2 lead in the opening game and then kept moving ahead to pocket the game comfortably.

Top seed Manu and Sumeeth Reddy, who became the first Indian men’s doubles pair to qualify for the Rio Olympics, received a big boost when they defeated local combo of Adrian Liu and Toby Ng 21-8 21-14 in a lop-sided final. World No. 23 Manu and Sumeeth, who had beaten Indonesia’s Andrei Adistia and Canada’s Dong Adam (Xingyu) 21-15 21-19, also didn’t face much challenge from Adrian and Toby.
