The government of India has launched a web portal named khoyapaya.gov.in to track the missing child in India. Anyone can upload visuals and details of missing children and help track them. The website will act as an enabling platform for Indians to report missing children or those found as well as sightings.
Khoyapaya.gov.in has been initiated by the ministry of women and child development (WCD) along with the department of electronics and information technology (DEITY). The portal will be run with the assistance of Childline and local police.
WCD minister Maneka Gandhi said that the web portal will be in English for now. The ministry has planned to translate into Hindi and regional languages in future. The ministry also hopes that it will be linked with social media like twitter for a multiplier effect.
Every year, more than one lakh children are missing in India. The missed children are exploited sexually, and traded for their organs, engage them in flesh trade, harassed, kept as slaves…etc. Right now missing children can be tracked through “trackthemissingchild.gov.in”. However adding content to the site is restricted to police and authorized personnel.
