A noted writer of children’s books Kamala Laxman passed away on 14 November 2015 in Pune. She was 90. She was widow of legendary cartoonist R K Laxman who was best known for his creation The Common Man for his daily cartoon strip You Said It in the daily The Times of India.
About Kamala:-
- Laxman Laxman was born in Chennai and had graduated from Delhi’s Indraprastha College.
- She had studied interior decoration from Sir JJ School of Arts in Mumbai.
- She was the second wife of R.K. Laxman. Incidentally, his first wife was also known as Kamala who was renowned Bharatnatyam danseuse and movie star.
- They were divorced in 1960.
Notable Children books:-
- The Thama Stories, Raman of Tenali & Other Stories, Thama and His Missing Mother etc.
- Her Tenali Raman stories were serialised into 13 episodes and were telecasted on Doordarshan.
- She was commissioned to write a series for children by the India Book House in the 1970s.
