1. Chhattisgarh plans to start production of herbal drugs
In a bid to give a thrust to the herbal drugs industry under its ‘Make in Chhattisgarh’ vision, the state government is contemplating to start manufacture of Ayurvedic medicines on a large scale. As per the plan, Ayurvedic drug manufacturers would be invited to set up herbal drug production units in the state, based on public private partnership (PPP) mode.
2.36 years on, China lifts 1 child Policy
China finally lifted one child policy after 36 long years. The policy was implemented 36 years back and was seen as a global landmark that reduced an estimated 400 million births and saved millions from starvation. However, The restrictions had also led abortion sometimes due to traditional preference for boys.
3.World Bank retains India growth forecast at 7.5% for 2015-16
The World Bank has maintained its growth forecast for India in 2015-16 at 7.5 per cent, while lowering marginally the projection for 2016-17 to 7.8 per cent, and for 2017-18 to 7.9 per cent. The World Bank says India, now the world’s fastest growing economy, is relatively well-positioned to weather the global volatility and even set for a modest acceleration in growth in the years ahead.
4.India-Africa Forum Summit adopts framework for strategic cooperation & Delhi Declaration
On the concluding day of the third India-Africa Forum Summit 2015 here, India and Africa Forum on October 26 adopted a “Delhi Declaration 2015” and “India-Africa Framework for Strategic Cooperation”. The Delhi Declaration called for continued collaboration in the fields of peace and security, besides strengthening of the UN counter-terrorism mechanism and enhancing cooperation and coordination to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
5.John Magufuli elected as President of Tanzania
John Magufuli of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) defeated his closest opponent Edward Lowassa in the Tanzania presidential elections, extending the party’s rule for another five years. The country’s electoral commission announced the results of the polls on Thursday (29 October).
6.China’s first lunar rover Yutu sets record for longest stay on Moon
China’s first lunar rover, Yutu, has been operating on the moon for almost two years, setting a record for the longest stay by a rover. Yutu was deployed and landed on the moon via China’s Chang’e-3 lunar probe in 2013, staying longer than the Soviet Union’s 1970 moon rover Lunokhod 1, which spent 11 months on the moon.
7.BRICS Countries Signed Moscow Declaration for Supporting Multilateral Science Projects
BRICS countries- Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa agreed for co-investment of resources for supporting multilateral R&D Projects in mutually agreed areas. The Indian delegation led by the Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, signed a joint Declaration called Moscow Declaration to this effect, at the 3rd Meeting of BRICS Ministers for Science, Technology and Innovation held at Moscow on 28 October, 2015.
This Declaration reflects BRICS partnership in addressing common global and regional socio-economic challenges, utilizing such drivers as science, technology and innovation (STI).
8.Activist Bindeshwar Pathak selected for New York Global Leaders Dialogue Humanitarian Award
Sociologist and founder of Sulabh International Bindeshwar Pathak on 29 October 2015 was selected for the prestigious New York Global Leaders Dialogue Humanitarian Award for his contribution to sanitation and improving the quality of life for millions of manual scavengers.
Pathak will be presented with the award on 12 April 2016 in New York, US.
9.Global Tuberculosis Report 2015 released by WHO
World Health Organization (WHO) on 28 October 2015 released Global Tuberculosis Report 2015 in Washington. This is the twentieth global report on tuberculosis (TB) that started in 1997.
The 2015 edition focuses on whether 2015 global TB targets set in the context of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were achieved worldwide and at regional and country levels.
10.Ministry of Civil Aviation released Revised Draft National Civil Aviation Policy
The Ministry of Civil Aviation on 30 October 2015 released Revised Draft National Civil Aviation Policy (NCAP 2015).
The policy aims at providing a favourable environment and a level playing field to various aviation sub-sectors, such as Airlines, Airports, Cargo, Maintenance Repairs and Overhaul (MRO) services and so on.
