Reva Khetrapal selected as Lokayukta of Delhi

Reva Khetrapal  who is  a former High Court Judge , has been selected as Delhi’s new Lokayukta. The post was filled after 2 years and it was lying vacant since 2013. It became vacant after retirement of Justice Manmohan Sarin.

She has become the fourth Lokayukta of Delhi and shall have five years terms as per Delhi Lokayukta and Uplokayukta Act, 1995. It should be noted that she will be appointed by President Pranab Mukherjee after Lt Governor recommends her name to President. The name of the 63-year-old judge was recommended to the Chief Justice of Delhi HC by the AAP government along with that of two others — retired Chief Justice of Orissa HC Bilal Nazki and retired Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana HC Jasbir Singh.

About Reva Khetrapal:

  • Reva Khetrapal had practiced in the Delhi High Court and Supreme Court from 1975 to 1991.
  • She was elevated to the HC in 2006 and she retired in September 2014.
  • In 1991, she was appointed sessions judge and additional district.
  •  she was posted as special judge (narcotics) in 1994.
  • In 1999, She was also appointed secretary, Press Council of India (PCI).

It is an anti-corruption ombudsman organization in the Indian states.Maharashtra was the first state to introduce the institution of Lokayukta through The Lokayukta and Upa-Lokayuktas Act in 1971.  Karnataka Lokayukta is considered as the most powerful Lokayukta in the country.
