Sikkim CM honoured with Sustainable Development Award
Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling was conferred the prestigious 2016 Sustainable Development LeadershipAward‘ by President Pranab Mukherjee during the World Sustainable Development Summit organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) at Vigyan Bhawan. The award was presented to Chamling in recognition of his vision and leadership in environment and sustainable development leading to the establishment of Sikkim.

IAF inducts renowned space scientist UR rao in Hall of fame
The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) announced renowned space scientist U.R. Rao had been inducted into its Hall of Fame for his contribution to development of India’s space technology. Rao, 84, is the Chairman of the space agency’s Physical Research Laboratory at Ahmedabad in Gujarat.

J&K bank appoints parvez ahmed as chairman & CEO
Jammu and Kashmir Bank has appointed Parvez Ahmed as Chairman and CEO of the bank. He has been appointed chairman for a period of three years. He replaces MustaqAhmad who completed his term on October 5. Ahmad, who joined the bank in 1998, was instrumental in successful management of the bank’s PO.

Paytm appoints Madhur Deora as Chief Financial Officer
Payments platform Paytm, named ex-Citigroup senior executive Madhur Deora as chief financial officer and senior vice president of Paytm. Deora will also be responsible for building and managing Paytm’s newly formed financial services business. Deora has over 17 years of experience in investment banking and most recently served in Citi’s investment banking business as managing director.

Former Pourtugal PM, Antonio Guterres set to become next UNGS
Portugal’s former premier AntonioGuterres is set to become the next UN Secretary-General after the Security Council in the sixth straw poll conducted declared him to be the unanimous choice. An indirect Secretary-General election will be held to choose the ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations in October 2016 to replace Ban Ki-moon, whose term concludes 31 December 2016.

CBSE to discontinue practice of re-evaluation of answer sheets from 2017
The Central Board of Secondary Education has decided to discontinue the provision of re-evaluation of answer sheets from 2017. However, some system will still be in place for redress of genuine cases. Senior CBSE officials told media persons in New Delhi that since 2014, re-evaluation of answer sheets were done in around 10 subjects for class 12 examinations.

New Solar powered Guard Van of Goods Train flagged off
The newly manufactured Guard Van of Goods Train (8 wheeled) has been equipped for the first time with Solar powered Light, Fan, and Mobile Charging Point along with the facility of Zero discharge Bio Toilet. In keeping with the country’s commitment to make India a ‘Swachh Bharat’, the Guard’s toilet has also been modified to a zero discharge bio toilet.

Election commission of India Collaborates With facebook to register Young voters
- Social networking site Facebook is partnering with the Election Commission of India in five states going to polls next year to run a voter registration drive aimed at encouraging youth to participate in the democratic exercise.
- Facebook is collaborating with the Election Commission and the office of Chief electoral officers in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand for the first time in the country to run a voter registration drive.

Finance Ministry to set up public debt management cell
- The Finance Ministry has set up a Public Debt Management Cell (PDMC)with a view to streamline government borrowings and better cash management with the overall objective of deepening bond markets.
- PDMC has been tasked to plan government borrowings, including market borrowings and other borrowings, like Sovereign Gold Bond issuance. Other function of the PDMC is to manage government’s liabilities, monitor cashbalances, improve cash forecasting, and foster a liquid and efficient market for government securities.

ISRO succesfully launches GSAT-18 from kourou in France Guiana
India’s latest communication satelliteGSAT-18 is successfully launched by a heavy duty rocket of Arianespace from the spaceport of Kourou in French Guiana. GSAT-18, built by the IndianSpace Research Organisation (ISRO), aims at providing telecommunications services for the country by strengthening ISRO’s current fleet of 14 operational telecommunication satellite
